The Snake Princess

Hearing the words of her mother, Princess Mala screamed angrily. Feeling the Queen underestimated the problem of her injury.

“My beautiful girl, it’s just a small wound, later it will get well soon,” said the Queen.

A long long time ago, there was a peaceful and prosperous kingdom. The royal king had a very beautiful daughter, named Princess Mala. Unfortunately, the princess often said bad words.

His parents, King and Queen, often advised her, asked Princess Mala to stop her habit but she did not want to hear and still said bad words about everything.

“I’d better be a blind person than see your sullen face like that,” said Princess Mala one day to one of her aides.

Her maid was very sad to hear the words of Princess Mala. So was the King and the Queen.

The queen who was concerned also rebuked Princess Mala again.

“My lovely daughter. Please keep your words. What if you are really blind then?”

The princess ignored the Queen’s words. She also felt angry because the Queen had rebuked her.

One day, a very handsome prince visited the kingdom to find a princess who wanted to become a queen. Princess Mala was very happy when the prince came and asked Princess Mala to be his wife. Princess Mala accepted the proposal of the prince.

The wedding party was ready soon. It took a month to prepare for the party. It was at this time that Princess Mala tried to make herself look more beautiful.

Princess Mala took a bath on a limpid lake accompanied by her maids every day. They rubbed the Princess’s body using water sprinkled with various flowers. The motive was to make Princess Mala skin clean, smooth, and fragrant.

The Tears of Regret

One day while bathing in the lake, a bird suddenly was flying over of Princess Mala and pecking her nose until she was seriously injured. The wound on the Princess Mala’s nose could not be cured soon, even though the wedding party was coming soon. The wound also left a mark so Princess Mala was angry. She was worried that the prince would not want to marry her if he saw the scars on her nose.

The Queen tried to comfort the Princess. She was sure the young king would not cancel the marriage only because of a minor wound on Princess Mala’s nose.

“My beautiful girl, it’s just a small wound, later it will get well soon,” said the Queen.

Hearing the words of her mother, Princess Mala screamed angrily. She felt the Queen underestimated the problem of her injury.

“Mom, this is a small wound indeed, but it still looks and makes me ugly!” shouted Princess Mala.

“I’m sure, the prince does not mind, my darling. He is wise young, who knows that the wounds in your nose will eventually heal,” said the Queen.

Princess Mala got angry more. She also shouted that she preferred to be a snake with a scaly body. According to Princess Mala, if her body was scaly, the small wounds in her nose would certainly not be visible.

“If I were a snake, my wound would definitely not be seen!” Princess Mala screamed in anger.

Immediately after Princess Mala shouted, the sound of thunder was heard from the sky. Princess Mala’s body suddenly turned into a snake.

The Queen was shocked. But unfortunately, nothing could be changed. The snake appeared to shed tears. Princess Mala was full of regret. Since then, like a snake, Princess Mala lived behind the palace.
