People were worried. The droughts had a greater impact. Many official food supplies had also been distributed to everyone. So had the royal treasury.

Since several months before, the kingdom had run out of its treasury. Royal finance became empty. Money had been spent on buying food abroad.

“What other asset do we have?” asked the king to his assistant.

“If there is anything we can sell to neighbor countries, we have to sell the goods, to buy food for our people,” said the king.

The king loves his people and his country. He gave willingly to give personal properties for sale then bought food for his people. He also asked officials to save the kingdom’s expenses.

“We have to save everything. Making priority for the people,” said the king repeatedly.

Princess Recommendation

The king had a daughter named Jelitani. Because she was born in the dry season, people also called her The Drought Princess. Like her father, she also loves her country. Every day she helped officials distributing food to the people.

“Princess Jelitani, we have run out of money, even though there is nothing else we can eat,” said the people in the villages she visited.

Hearing the complaints of the villagers, the princess was very tortured by her pity. Every night, she prayed to God to give the rain to the country. But, for months, her prayer did not come true.

Now she suggested to the king that the whole country would pray together. Perhaps, if everyone was prayed together, God would be happy to convey their prayers.

“Father, how can we all pray together, asking God to bring rain to our country?” asked princess.

Because the king had no other choice, he agreed with his daughter’s suggestion.

“Well. I will call religious leaders to gather at the palace today,” answered his father.

Everybody Praying

The next day, when the sun had just risen, religious leaders in various parts of the country had informed important announcements to the people throughout the kingdom. The king ordered everybody to pray, asked God to bring down the rain in their country. Praying that the dry land can be wet again, the empty rivers were drained again, the plants could grow again, and the trees could leaf and born fruit again.

From that day on, the whole country prayed as the king commanded. From children to adults all prayed together. However, day by day, day by night changed, there was still no sign of rain.

“What’s wrong with us? Why God never granted it?” asked people who felt they could not stand with the drought they experienced anymore.

“It is not our fault. Not only our countries are affected by the disaster, but neighboring countries are also experienced the same problem,” said a farmer who recently returned from visiting his brother across the island.

“Indeed the drought we experience seems to be severe,” someone added in a weak voice.

Princess Jelitani who suggested to the king that everybody must pray were felt anxious now. Like some other people, the princess was also wondered what was wrong with her country.

One day, in the middle of a quiet night, the princess prayed. She begged for guidance to God. She asked for a sign through the dream, so she would know what else they should do so that her people could avoid long-term disasters.
